Add Some Colour To Your Wardrobe

Posted on 17 January 2022

If you’re anything like lots of people out there, you most likely enjoy wearing neutral-coloured clothing. We’re talking black, white, beige, gray, navy. You would think that it’s enough of colour in your wardrobe but stop. Where is blue? And yellow? And red? When was the last time you wore something colourful, something maybe even a little extravagant, bold? When was the last time you stepped out of your comfort zone?

It’s okay if you can’t remember whether there’s even been such a time in your life, and it’s totally fine if you never really wore anything of such sorts. We’re here to introduce you to some colour. Now, we know it might be a little scary and uncomfortable to take that first step but trust us, by the end of this blog you’ll want to try something new. And we’re going to be with you all the way! That’s why we compiled a little list of tips how to add colour to your everyday outfits. Just keep on reading!

Start small

You know how they say “go big or go home”? Well, let’s forget about that for a second. When making a change to your appearance you want to start small and take it easy. So, the first thing you want to do is to use what you already have and throw in there one piece of something new and bright. Not neon-bright, of course, but something colourful, something a little out of your comfort zone. We always find that going colourful with a top is way easier than trying to pull off, say, green bottoms. Of course, paired with the right thing they would look amazing but let’s hold off the experiments for now. Try a red top instead, or even an orange one. Pair it with your favourite black bottoms and wear your regular shoes. You’ll notice how that drastically changes your appearance – suddenly you will look more lively, and who knows, maybe you’ll end up falling in love with one particular colour. We, for example, have a soft spot for red, so it’s definitely worth exploring until you find something that speaks to you!

Go in with accessories

That’s right, it’s one of the best ways to introduce some colour into your wardrobe. The beautiful thing about popping in some colour this way is that you can choose something that will go great with your neutrals. And when you’re ready to take that second step – try matching your handbag to your shoes. It can be a good way to make your friends’ heads turn when they see you, so add that blue, or orange, or red, and don’t be shy about it. After all, life is more fun when it’s colourful, isn’t that right?

If you don’t feel too sure about such combination, or you want to try it but you’re afraid it’s going to look funny, first of all, don’t stress. You don’t have to go all bold and add bright yellows to your outfit. After all, the goal here is to make you try something new and exciting, not make you visible from a mile away. Although, being visible is not such a bad thing when you think about it, huh?

Try adding print

Now, we know, we know, print is difficult to pull off and style. It requires a lot of thought and careful matching but it is possible! You have your neutral and most likely not patterned clothing, so it’s time to start adding something fun and interesting. So, it’s just like with colour – you want to start with something small and simple – plaid or checkered patterns. To make you feel comfortable with the idea, you can try wearing those in neutral colours and then slowly shift to something more exotic. Consider a checkered skirt, for example, it would look amazing with your neutral top and a blazer! Or try a plaid shirt. It’s always a good idea to add a pop of colour to the otherwise minimalistic outfit. The possibilities here are endless! All you need to do is to step out of that comfort zone and start experimenting.

Not every outfit is going to be successful. You’re not going to like all the outfits you managed to put together. And that’s completely fine. After all, it’s all about the process of learning what suits you and what makes you feel authentic. If there is anything that you should remember, then it is this: don’t be afraid to make mistakes. If your friends don’t like your outfit, so be it, the most important thing is that you like it, that you’ve tried something new, something out of the ordinary. But we are sure that if you stick to our simple tricks, you’ll be wearing all colourful clothing in no time. It’s all about the journey, so enjoy yours!
